Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hardcourt
A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his first trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament final.
The athlete, a former number one, has had a torrid period, achieving just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.
Medvedev's varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in particular - led to him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately separating with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.
Now working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Moutet.
It is his first title after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court since March of that year.
The win also means the Russian has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one different tournaments.
"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a title is especially meaningful," commented ranked player the champion.
"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I got when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, including in Halle in the past months.
His retrieving strategy and recurring emotional displays on court had led observers to doubt if his ability to compete at the top level was finished.
Yet the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and play assertively, reinforced by an better serve.
Medvedev came back from a break down in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, winning 4 of the concluding five points to take the lead.
The pair swapped service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his initial tour title, gained dominance to force a decider.
Moutet rescued four early chances in a competitive final set before the champion broke to fifteen to serve for the match.
Suitably, he secured victory with a shot at the net, with Moutet failing to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
